As we promised last week, today was finally our metro adventure day. We bought one‑day tickets right at the counter, and the process couldn’t have been easier. Day passes for two cost only 44 dirhams, which felt surprisingly affordable. With just two metro lines—the Green and the Red—getting around is simple, as long as you know where to switch trains when your route isn’t direct. We learned that part quickly.

I’ll share more about our destinations later, but one thing stood out immediately: Dubai’s metro is fully automated. No drivers at all. Each train even has its own Gold Class and a separate section for women and children, which gives the whole system a unique feel.

Our smooth ride took a small turn when one of our tickets suddenly stopped working. Luckily, the staff were incredibly helpful and let us pass through the gates together, even though the alarm beeped loudly behind us. After a few stations of the same issue, a clerk finally replaced my ticket. I signed a form, received a fresh card, and we were on our way again.

At some point we returned to the hostel to change into shorts, and my husband headed to the barbershop. Soon after, we were back on the metro, exploring more of the city. Later in the afternoon we rested for a bit, then—yes—returned once more to the metro.

The station corridors here stretch almost like airport hallways—maybe not quite as long, but long enough to make you notice. At 8 in the morning the trains were already packed, but the evening crowds were even denser, people pressed shoulder to shoulder.

Clear markings on the platform floors show exactly where to stand, where to enter, and where to let passengers exit. In the evening rush, the trains were so full we had to skip one and wait for the next. During peak times they arrive almost every minute, which is impressive.

At one point, the crowding even sparked a small argument between two passengers—raised voices, pointed fingers, nothing serious, but definitely a moment of unexpected metro drama.

By 20:35 we were back at the hostel, cooking dinner and winding down after a long day of trains, crowds, and small adventures—ready to fall into bed and rest for whatever comes next.
